At Submerge, we are dedicated to protecting your privacy and security. This Privacy Policy details how we collect, process, secure, and share your personal information when you use our browser extension and companion WebApp.
1. Information We Collect
To provide and continuously improve our language learning companion, we collect the following types of information: (a) Account Profile Data: your email address, provided securely via our authentication platform (Logto) during sign-up; (b) Learning History & Statistics: metadata about pages you read using the extension, vocabulary snippets you highlight and save, and minutes spent listening to audio/video dubbing; (c) Operational Analytics: anonymous diagnostic data, feature usage frequency, and crash reports collected via PostHog to optimize service performance; (d) Payment Information: credit card details processed 100% securely through our third-party billing processor (Stripe). We never store your full payment card details on our own servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected data strictly for educational and service provision purposes, including: (a) Synchronizing your learning footprint (vocabulary notes, read pages, and videos) seamlessly across all your Chromium and Firefox browsers; (b) Powering our smart AI context-aware review algorithm, which dynamically inserts your saved vocabulary into new materials you read; (c) Customizing your learning companion configuration (such as native language, target language, and current language level evaluation); (d) Processing subscriptions and maintaining your billing status; (e) Enhancing app speed, reliability, and security.
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
Your learning data is personal, and we respect that. Submerge does NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information, reading history, or vocabulary notes to any third-party advertisers or data brokers. We only share information with trusted third-party service providers (subprocessors) that are necessary to run the Service: (a) Logto, for highly secure account management and identity authentication; (b) Stripe, for encrypted payment handling and PCI-compliant subscriptions; (c) PostHog, for developer-centric web usage analytics (which can be opted out of by turning on Do Not Track in your browser); (d) Trusted OpenAI/Anthropic API gateways, used solely to generate contextual translations and sentence reshaping on demand (no personal account details are sent to these AI models).
4. Data Security & Storage
We implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your account and learning data. All communication between the Submerge browser extension, the WebApp, and our backend APIs is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) / Transport Layer Security (TLS). Databases housing your saved vocabulary snippets are strictly isolated and protected by strong access controls.
6. Your Choices and Data Control
We believe in absolute data ownership. You have full control over your learning data at any time: (a) You can view, modify, and delete any vocabulary snippet or reading history item directly from your Study Center; (b) You can adjust your language profile at any time in your Settings; (c) You can request the permanent deletion of your entire Submerge account and all associated synchronized learning history by contacting us directly at [email protected]. Account deletions are processed fully within 30 days.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our technology stack, data protection laws, or operational practices. When updates are made, we will adjust the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you through an in-app banner or an email notification.
8. Privacy Contact Information
